Spanish
Citizens of the World
For 21 years, Montessori Children’s School House has been offering a weekly Spanish class for Primary students. Spanish is taught through various interactive, project based modalities; songs, books & stories, vocabulary, repetition, cultural experiences & celebrations and themed lessons. While the children are introduced to a second language, they are also becoming citizens of world by learning about and appreciating different Spanish speaking cultures and their traditions.
Maria Montessori's mission was to create citizens of the world through her teaching. When preschoolers learn a second language, it gives them a bigger view of the world while creating cultural connections.
Research shows that learning a second language boosts problem-solving, critical-thinking, and listening skills, in addition to improving memory, concentration, and the ability to multitask. Children proficient in other languages also show signs of enhanced creativity and mental flexibility. (www.leadwithlanguages.org)
